Built to Spill: The fifteenth of 15 bands playing at Treefort Music Fest this year that everyone should catch (and probably will).
In its second year, Treefort Music Fest is a multi-venue music festival March 21-24 in downtown Boise. The festival features hundreds of national, regional and local emerging musicians and bands. The festival will be hosting informative panels on topics from video production to local politics. Visit treefortmusicfest.com for event details, artist information, schedules and tickets.
Built to Spill are our neighbors and friends. I’ve seen them oh so many times, and each is like a backyard block party. They’re playing a bunch of shows for us, because each will be packed. See them 10 - 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at El Korah Shrine.
Treefort pass required.
B. Dolan: The thirteenth of 15 artists playing at Treefort Music Fest this year that are a must see.

B. Dolan doesn’t sound like a hip hop name, but his lyrics and beats remind me of MF Doom or Lyrics Born. Can’t wait for the late show - playing 11:50 p.m. - 12:20 a.m. Thursday, March 21 at The Reef (corner of 6th and Main, upstairs). Also playing a free show, open to the public, at 1:30 on Thursday, at Boise State University’s Centennial Amphitheater.
Treefort pass required. 21+

Youth Lagoon is local young-blood Trevor Powers. He’s been making quite the name for himself in the national music scene the past couple of years, and for good reason. New-new wave goodness. Love it. Youth Lagoon plays 5:30 - 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 24 on the Main Stage. Rumor has it he’ll also make a surprise appearance at The Record Exchange sometime during the festival. Rumors are awesome.

Holy shit you guys! YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT!!!
Been a fan since seeing their hardly attended show at Neurolux in 2006. I still have the YACHT anchor stickers from that show, but the edges are all rolled up from being in my dance-sweat-soaked pocket.
YACHT: The eleventh of 15 bands playing at Treefort Music Fest this year that I’m already at. In line. Don’t cut.

Quasi: The seventh of 15 bands playing at Treefort Music Fest this year that I’ll be venturing outside my hermit den to see.

I can’t recall how many times I’ve seen Quasi, but each time is a good time, and I’m happy they’re on my list to see again. Quasi will play at 9 p.m., Friday, March 22 on El Korah Shrine. Now, Built to Spill is playing a show right after Quasi in the same venue, which is smallish… but don’t forget that CC/NN is playing at China Blue starting at 9:40 - it’s going to be a tight fit.
Treefort pass required, all ages.

Animal Collective are a decade+ strong, and each indie-pop-synth-trippy album progresses into the future. Animal Collective will play 8:30 - 10 p.m., Sunday, March 24 on the Main Stage. Come, dance and sing and be happy, and tired with me the next morning at work. IT WILL BE WORTH IT!

UMO are of PDX, by way of the magical New Zealand. Melodic and trippy lo-fi tunes; I know that this show will be one of the best to kick-off the rest of the weekend. UMO will play at 10 p.m., Thursday, March 21 at El Korah Shrine on 12th and Idaho Street.
Treefort pass required, all ages.
Follow UMO on Instagram. And below is another UMO video - this one with masturbating stop-motion puppets. What’s not to love?

Treefort Music Fest needs our help Boise!
Here is a request from the fabulous Stephanie Coyle:
Here’s the deal. I have 250+ road weary bands to feed here in 32 days, when the wonder of Treefort Music Fest hits down. I’ve had a lot of very kind and generous friends and community members step up and contribute to our artist hospitality lounge (and swag bags), but there is plennnty room and need for more. Anything at all would be so helpful..chips, pretzels, bagels, cookies, pastries…anything. Email me (stephanie(at)treefortmusicfest.com) if you’re willing and able to help out. Thank you! XO
Besides a really cool line-up (Willie Nelson, Band of Horses and John C. Reilly Band), this tour is branded stylishly and harks to history lovers and musicphiles alike! Check out this website, and the history timeline - very well done!
Treefort Music Festival is going to be RAD!!
