Built to SpillThe fifteenth of 15 bands playing at Treefort Music Fest this year that everyone should catch (and probably will).

In its second year, Treefort Music Fest is a multi-venue music festival March 21-24 in downtown Boise. The festival features hundreds of national, regional and local emerging musicians and bands. The festival will be hosting informative panels on topics from video production to local politics. Visit treefortmusicfest.com for event details, artist information, schedules and tickets.

Built to Spill are our neighbors and friends. I’ve seen them oh so many times, and each is like a backyard block party. They’re playing a bunch of shows for us, because each will be packed. See them 10 - 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at El Korah Shrine.

WOLVSERPENTThe fourteenth of 15 bands playing at Treefort Music Fest this year that are rad.

WOLVSERPENT are Blake Green and Brittany McConnell, two of Boise’s nicest people who shroud themselves in black doom metal. They’re nice, I promise. Really sweet, actually. Wear black. Performing 9:10 - 10 p.m. on Thursday, March 21 at Neurolux. I realize this will cut into Foxygen’s set just a tad - fortunately the venues are only a block away from each other.

B. Dolan: The thirteenth of 15 artists playing at Treefort Music Fest this year that are a must see.

B. Dolan doesn’t sound like a hip hop name, but his lyrics and beats remind me of MF Doom or Lyrics Born. Can’t wait for the late show - playing 11:50 p.m. - 12:20 a.m. Thursday, March 21 at The Reef (corner of 6th and Main, upstairs). Also playing a free show, open to the public, at 1:30 on Thursday, at Boise State University’s Centennial Amphitheater.

Youth LagoonThe twelfth of 15 artists playing at Treefort Music Fest this year that y’all shouldn’t miss.

Youth Lagoon is local young-blood Trevor Powers. He’s been making quite the name for himself in the national music scene the past couple of years, and for good reason. New-new wave goodness. Love it. Youth Lagoon plays 5:30 - 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 24 on the Main Stage. Rumor has it he’ll also make a surprise appearance at The Record Exchange sometime during the festival. Rumors are awesome.

Holy shit you guys! YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT!!!

Been a fan since seeing their hardly attended show at Neurolux in 2006. I still have the YACHT anchor stickers from that show, but the edges are all rolled up from being in my dance-sweat-soaked pocket.

YACHTThe eleventh of 15 bands playing at Treefort Music Fest this year that I’m already at. In line. Don’t cut.

This is my first chance to catch Wampire in Boise, and it looks like I’ll be at El Korah Shrine (12th and Idaho Street) ALL NIGHT Thursday, March 21! Wampire plays at El Korah at 8 p.m., followed by Foxygen, then Unknown Mortal Orchestra. I hope there is a wristband/drink option, or I’ll be running down to Neurolux between sets!

Bad Weather California: The ninth of 15 bands playing at Treefort Music Fest this year that I suggest checking out.

Bad Weather California hails from Denver, CO. I guess good music and beer can be said of the Mile High City. BWC plays 3:10 - 3:55 Sunday, March 24 on the Main Stage.

SsssnakeThe eighth of 15 artists playing at Treefort Music Fest this year that I’ve got scheduled on my Google Calendar (see below, nerds).

I’d never heard of Snnnake (aka, Noah Tabakin) before his listing on the Treefort bill, but they’re saying he’s the lovechild of Ray Charles and MF Doom. As if I needed a bonus reason to check him out, apparently his sets end in with him wearing only his undies - I’ve become accustom to bands doing this around me, and it’s almost comforting now.

QuasiThe seventh of 15 bands playing at Treefort Music Fest this year that I’ll be venturing outside my hermit den to see.

In its second year, Treefort Music Fest is a multi-venue music festival March 21-24 in downtown Boise. The festival features hundreds of national, regional and local emerging musicians and bands. I can’t recall how many times I’ve seen Quasi, but each time is a good time, and I’m happy they’re on my list to see again. Quasi will play at 9 p.m., Friday, March 22 on El Korah Shrine. Now, Built to Spill is playing a show right after Quasi in the same venue, which is smallish… but don’t forget that CC/NN is playing at China Blue starting at 9:40 - it’s going to be a tight fit.
